When moving from the scale of a building project to the scale of urbanism, a number of new variables enter into the determination of site and program. Rather than being handed a tidy parcel and area calculation, an architect may be asked to shape the size, location, and mix of uses for a project. This, in turn, may lead to exceptions or changes to existing zoning and other planning regulations.
